District Priority Project - My City Clean City
A new community-driven afforestation initiative, the 'Palathara Mango Grove', was inaugurated at Vellur Palathara, Payyanur on 22 July 2026 under the District Priority - My City Clean City. The project aims to plant and nurture diverse varieties of mango saplings on government wasteland, with active public participation. The inaugural sapling planting was done by Forest Officer K.V. Shijin. The program was organized with the joint support of Kannur Social Forestry, Payyanur College Botany Department, NSS Unit 11, Kunhimangalam Mango Group, Payyanur Rotary Club, and Palathara Residents Association. The objective of the project is to conserve local mango germplasm and promote biodiversity. The initiative will focus on protecting rare and indigenous mango varieties found in areas. The event was presided over by Councillor C.P. Chandran and felicitated by Rtn Dr. Ratheesh Narayanan, Rtn Dr. Sudha Santhosh, President Rotary Payyanur. The project received wide participation.
